Planning 

Planning refers to think in advance what is to be done when is to be done how is to be done and who is going to do.

Planning is basically the gap between where we are and where we want to be.All the work in process between what we are and what we will become is called planning.

It is the first function and one of the most important function of management.

Limitations Of Planning 

• Planning leads to rigidity

Generally plans are created by the top level of management and other levels of Management are required to follow the plan strictly. They are not in position to change the plan according to the requirement.

So, such kind of rigidity in plan brings difficulties.

• Planning reduces creativity

Generally, plans are created by top level of management and other level of management are required to follow the plans blindly they are not in the position to utilise their own ideas skill or change the plan according to the situation. 

So this kind of activities reduces creativity and initiative of an employee.

• Planning involves huge cost

Detailed plans required scientific calculations to a certain facts and figures for such detail plan various profession and experts are hired they are paid and other miscellaneous cost like refreshment, stay, stationary expenses, etc are involved. So the cost incurred on planning it is not justified that the benefit is going to come from that planning.

• Planning is a time consuming process

Planning is a time consuming process as lot of time is needed for collection, analysation and interpretation of data. Therefore formation of plan takes time and there is not much time left for their implementation.

• Planning mein not work in dynamic environment

External environment of the business is changing very frequently. So, it is very difficult to forecast theses changes accurately when predictions and assumptions do not come true planning gets fail.

• Planning does not guarantee success

Manager have attendance to rely on previously tried and tested successful plans however it is not necessary that the plan which has work before will work again in the changing and competitive environment this kind of false sense of security May actually lead to failure instead of success.
