Management principle

Introduction

A principal refers to a statement which reflects the fundamental truth about some phenomena based on cause and effect relationship and its outcomes.

A managerial principle is a broad and general guideline for decision-making and behaviour.

For example, while deciding about promotion of an employee one manager may consider seniority, whereas the other may follow the principle of merit.      

• Nature/ features and characteristics of principle of management

1. Universal applicability (pervasive) :

The principles of management can be applied on all type of organisation small, big, economic, non-economic, social, non-social, etc. and whole over the world. So, management principles are pervasive in nature and has universal applicability.

2. General guidelines 

Management principles are not ready made solution of any problem. These principles are adjusted or modified according to the requirement so these principle should be applied carefully according to the needs of organisation.

3. Formed by practice and experimentation

Management principles are not develop overnight these principles are developed through deep observation and repeated experimentation. So, management principle are revolutionary in nature.

4. Flexibility 

Management principles are not as right as in case of scientific principles management principles are flexible and can be modified by the manager as per the requirement of the business or business environment so these principle cannot be applied blindly on all the problems. 

5. Mainly behavioural in nature 

Principles of management is at influencing human behaviour because all the work is done by human beings only. 

Human being or human behaviour is very complex and dynamic in nature management principle helps to develop interpersonal relationship between superior and subordinate. So, management principles are behavioural in nature.

6. Cause and effect relationship. 

Application of management principles are easily noticeable on a particular situation, that weather management principles are applied or not.
