In simple terms, management is an art of getting things done from other and it follow a particular process which involves planning, organising, staffing, directing and controlling.
Characteristics / Features of Management
1. Management is goal oriented process :
Everyone has some basic goal in the same way organisations make their goals to operate. Different organisation can have same or different goals.
So, the organisation unites efforts of every individual in the organisation in achieving goals of the organisation.
2. Management is pervasive in nature :
Management is pervasive in nature it means it is applied in each and every type of organisation whether social, economic or political.
We manage everything to achieve our goal.
3. Management is a continuous process :
Management is a process which involves planning, organising, staffing, directing controlling.
The process of management is a series of continuous, composite but seperate function.
Every manager perform some of these functions on simultaneously.
4. Management is a group activity :
In an organisation members from different backgrounds and interest join together for achieving common organisational goal.
(Every employee has different experience and interest and they share their ideas and view point which leads to development of employees and its beneficial for organisation.)
This requires team work and utilise the ability of individual to fulfill common goals and management should enable all its members to grow and develop according to needs and opportunities changes.
5. Management is a dynamic function:
Business environment changes very rapidly and management need to adapt these changing environment for growth in the organisation. External environment of business consist of various social, economic and political functions.
So, management is dynamic function and should adopt itself according to changing environment.
In order to be successful, an organisation must change their plans and goals according to changing environment.
6. Management is intangible in nature.
Intangible means cannot be seen or touch and can felt only.
So management is intangible in nature as it cannot be seen or touch but it's presence can be felt on how the organisation operates.
The effect of management is
noticeable in an organisation
where targets are met according to
plans, employees are happy and
satisfied, and there is orderliness
instead of chaos.
